WSIB’s New ASD Practice and Procedures

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) has released an updated version of its Appeals Services Division (ASD) Practice and Procedures (P&P).  This document is effective July 1, 2016.

The ASD P&P outlines the WSIB’s procedures for handling appeals.  This updated version has several noteworthy changes:

• An additional criteria has been added when considering extension of time to object.  It takes into account whether there is clear documentation of the party disputing the issue even though a formal notice of objection was not filed.

• The Hearings Scheduler role has been expanded to a new role called Appeals Coordinator

• The Appeals Administrator role has been expanded to a new role called Appeals Registrar

• The Appeals Registrar now makes decisions regarding extensions of time to object.  Formerly, the Appeals Resolution Officers made the time extension decisions.

There are other changes and representatives (or unrepresented parties) should review this document when they are pursuing an appeal or an extension of the time to object at the WSIB.
