APPENDIX 1

The NEL Process

1	You reach maximum medical recovery (MMR).
2	WSIB sends you a list of doctors.
3	You choose one doctor for your medical assessment. In the case of a 2^nd assessment, both you and your employer must agree on a doctor.
4	WSIB sets a date for the medical examination.
5	WSIB send forms and medical reports from your file to the doctor.
6	You attend the medical examination.
7	The doctor sends the medical assessment report to WSIB.
8	The medical assessment report is reviewed by WSIB.
9	If a 2^nd medical assessment is required, then WSIB can request it.
10	The NEL Adjudicator at WSIB decides the percentage of permanent impairment.
11	Your NEL award is processed and paid to you.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
There are time limits for appealing WSIB decisions. If you wish to appeal a decision, contact a qualified representative as soon as possible. For more information on time limits, see OWA Fact Sheets 24 and 25 called Appealing to WSIB and Appealing to WSIAT.
